After a brief break, the World Championship Tour has commenced. Finally we can all go back to legitimately wasting time at work watching the webcasts. Then waste even more time on the email chain providing wave-by-wave, in-depth analysis of the contest and forecasting for our next Fantasy-Surfer team. Check out the Round-1 highlights... Then get back to work.
So... I may have claimed a few weeks ago that I was this [---] close to completing the motorcycle that I've been painstakingly rebuilding for almost a year now (in my spare time of course). Well the good news is... I finished it. The bad news is... it doesn't run (only downhill for now). It was just a couple weeks ago, Danny, his mustache and I tightened up the last few remaining bolts, put a bottle of champagne on ice and took her out on the street. While Danny documented, I filled her up with gas, strapped on my helmet and was ready to launch into the night sky. However I immediately noticed gas was leaking from somewhere and the lights didn't come on when I turned the key... not good. I wasn't giving up. What's a little gas leak gonna do? First kick... nothing. Second kick...nothing. Third kick...gas is starting to pool under the bike. OK FINE - I guess potentially bursting into flames is not a wise gamble.
DEFEATED... we push the bike back to our makeshift shop. After a couple days of depressed pondering, prodding & probing, I realized one of the wires was incorrectly connected, the fuse had blown and I wasn't getting a spark. I decide that I need professional help. So I'm having a mechanic go over my work to see where I went wrong. Getting closer...
Rip Curl recently partnered with a UK- based film company and rented the famous Sunway Lagoon in Malaysia to shoot their new Mirage campaign in "Bullet-Time" technology... whatever that means. Basically Rip Curl's A-Team (Fanning, Wright & Wilko) got in the wave pool with some jet skis and 52 high-def video cameras, yes 52 cameras... Which produces a pretty cool 3D effect. Check out the video of the ad below and the behind mirage video, which I think is even better.
"This shoot captures the idea that you can experience a certain space in three dimensions from more than one view at a time," explains Tim MacMillan of Timeslice Films. " This project was revolutionary for us, because we'd necer worked with surf before and was revolutionary for Rip Curl, because it was their first experience with Timeslice technology. The results achieved are quite remarkable."
My friends over at LaybackLarry.com just sent over this trailer... Um What?!?! I need the blueprints now! So I guess we should be counting down the minutes until February 15 to find out exactly what the hell is going on here and if I should be booking a ticket to Spain... Check out www.wave-garden.com on February 15... or so it says.
